Originally built in the 19th century, the Stroud House changed names in 1914 to become the Caswell Center, named after the state's first governor. Originating as strictly a medical center for the mentally handicapped, the facility now prides itself on being a vocational training center and transitional home. The attached museum chronicles life during the early years at this very first facility in North Carolina to serve people with mental retardation. The facility and museum are located in west Kinston, less than 30 miles south of Greenville.
Open Mon. - Fri. 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Open other times by appointment.
